The tdbengine is just as harmless or harmful to providers as is PERL, PHP or any other scripting-language. All who have PERL on their servers could install tdbengine as well for good reasons and offer it to their customers. Besides the outstanding performance of tdbengine of course the integrated database (for free, no license necessary!) is an invitation to make use of tdbengine.
As mentioned above, the tdbengine runs as a process on its own with the rights and restrictions of the http-server or (if suEXEC is activated) with the rights of the user of the tdbengine. Tdbengine can't do any damage, if the server is configured correctly. While the tdbengine is that small (about 360 kbyte), it can be installed to every user-folder with ease, which is mandatory if you want to use the suEXEC-wrapper.
